Photo sharing has become a normal thing to do in our society today; whether it is on facebook, flikr, or instagram. The photo that I show under here is a picture taken of me playing in a soccer tournament. I was invited by my friends to play in it, because it was a Qualcomm company tournamet. I am usually a goalkeeper, but I hurt my wrist and was not able to use it that day. Soccer is a huge part of my life, always has been and probably always will be.
Marcus Buckingham's speech on strengths was eye opening and really made me think about what my strengths are and what makes me get out of bed in the morning. He talks about people aren't happy because they have myths in their head and it becomes a barrier to what we can do. I believe that some of my strengths are communicating and connecting with people; which is a great asset to have as an athletic trainer. Another strength that I have is being organized. As an athletic trainer, I think that I am strong at diagnosing certain body parts and weak in other ones. When I am completely out of my element is taking a big standardized test, I am better at doing things physically and with my hands. A weakness I have is staying focused for long periods of time, I have to take breaks with homework and go do something that I enjoy doing.
Microblogging in sports can be a useful way to get out information to the masses quickly and efficiently. For example, Sports Center can have a twitter account and add to the news stories that they talk about on the television. Or a sports team can post news about the things that are happening on their team; injuries, community events, trades, and anything else that happens. Microblogging can have its downside if someone is not careful with who they follow and what they read. Twitter has a way to help people make sure they are following the actual person or band or team, they add a blue check mark on the side of the name.
The internet is a great way to learn new information and to share the information you learned; whether it is through a social media site or a personal web site. I like to go to Yahoo! news and the NATA website to learn new information. For school assignments, I use the school's library database to read journal articles. I do have a problem with getting distracted on the internet, I have a short attention span and am easily distracted. I sometimes will end up on Facebook or on some random website; I usually have to do assignments in short increments to make sure that I complete them to the best of my ability. Technology is a great tool for learning, especially in online courses, but it can be distracting. To use technology for class or just learning new information takes focus and dedication because it is so easy to be distracted.
A personal web presence or a PWP is a great way to put yourself out there and control what people find out about yourself. Instead of a social media page, someone can look at your PWP and see your point of views, what you find important, news you feel that is worthy of sharing, and possibly even learn your history. Someone can post their resume and use a PWP as a resource for a potential employer to look at and learn more behind the resume. It is more than just facts about someone, it can show someone your philosophies on life, or anything your interested in; an employer can really learn something about the type of person they are looking at for fulfilling their opening.
I think that Michele Culpepper's PWP page was really well put together and it represents her and her beliefs. Her site is professional, I believe that she organized her site in a way that makes it easy for people to navigate their way around and find out about Michele. I would copy how she set up her page and I don't think that I would change anything about her page. |
