Marcus Buckingham's speech on strengths was eye opening and really made me think about what my strengths are and what makes me get out of bed in the morning. He talks about people aren't happy because they have myths in their head and it becomes a barrier to what we can do. I believe that some of my strengths are communicating and connecting with people; which is a great asset to have as an athletic trainer. Another strength that I have is being organized. As an athletic trainer, I think that I am strong at diagnosing certain body parts and weak in other ones. When I am completely out of my element is taking a big standardized test, I am better at doing things physically and with my hands. A weakness I have is staying focused for long periods of time, I have to take breaks with homework and go do something that I enjoy doing.
Nicole,
I too, felt that Marcus Buckingham pointed out some rather glaring facts about peoples weaknesses and their strengths. We all have strengths and weaknesses, however, acknowledging them and improving upon them can be something entirely different. I am also a hands on kind of person. I struggle much more with standardized tests and need breaks from long tedious assignments. It's nice that you have been able to find a field to work in that plays to your strengths. I hope with the acquisition of this masters in Kinesiology I will be able to have more doors opened that will allow me to work more regularly in my areas of strength.

I think it's great that you have such an awareness of yourself. You seem very confident in what you do well and you are honest with yourself when there are things you need to improve upon. You sound like a great athletic trainer - keep up the good work!
Nicole, personal skill are so important for your field so it sounds like you are an awesome athletic training. I really cherish the personal interactions I had with the athletic trainers while I played soccer at USF. They always found a way to make me smile and laugh no matter what injury or loss I was recovering from.
